About
Independent UK appliance data, in one place
Appliance Compare is a UK-focused comparison site for large home appliances — fridges, washing machines, dishwashers, televisions and, over time, more of the categories on a typical family's shopping list. We exist to make it easier to choose an appliance on the things that actually matter over a ten-year ownership period.
Why this site exists
Most appliance shopping happens on retailer websites or scroll-through review lists. Those surfaces are good at answering "what's on sale this week" and bad at answering "what will this still be doing in seven years". Headline price, brand reputation and the marketing line a product belongs to are not strong predictors of long-term cost or reliability — and the manufacturers and retailers that organise their catalogues around those things have no commercial reason to surface the boring measurements that are.
Appliance Compare is built around those measurements: dimensions you can hold a tape measure to, official energy consumption from the EU EPREL register, noise in decibels, water per cycle, repairability disclosure where the regulator requires it. We add a transparent total-cost-of-ownership figure on top — the purchase price plus a decade of running costs at current UK electricity tariffs — and a community-sentiment score built from real owner feedback drawn from public review platforms.
What we do differently
- Specs first, marketing second. Every product page leads with the measured spec, not the brand name. A 595mm-wide A-rated fridge is a 595mm-wide A-rated fridge whether it has a logo on the door or not.
- Real-world reliability, separately labelled. We are building a UK appliance reliability dataset in two phases — community sentiment now, a structured owner survey from late 2026. Community sentiment is shown as "Community Sentiment" with the sample size and sources, never relabelled as a reliability score. Read the methodology.
- Transparent data freshness. Every page shows when the price you are looking at was last refreshed and when the energy-spec data was last synced from EPREL. If a number is stale, you can see that it is stale.
- No paid placements, no sponsored rankings, ever. Affiliate commission is one of three revenue lines and is structurally separated from the matching engine that picks what appears where. See the affiliate disclosure for the full position.

What's here today, what's coming
The site is in active development. As of June 2026 the catalogue covers four categories and around 12,800 SKUs sourced from the EU EPREL register and manufacturer disclosures. Pricing coverage is being expanded from a single retailer to the major UK chains over the summer; the structured reliability survey launches in autumn 2026 with the first publishable report scheduled for late 2026 / early 2027.
We will be honest about gaps. Where a product page does not have a price, a reliability sample, an editorial verdict or a category-specific spec we do not have yet, the page will say so rather than fill the space with placeholder content.
